Crociere, il Gruppo Costa avvia l’utilizzo di biocarburanti
Poche settimane dopo aver annunciato la creazione di un dipartimento dedicato alla decarbonizzazione, il Gruppo Costa, operatore crocieristico leader in Europa con le sue due compagnie Costa Crociere e AIDA Cruises, e parte di Carnival Corporation, ha compiuto un passo avanti nella sua strategia di decarbonizzazione: testerà biocarburanti a bordo di una nave AIDA.
Il 21 luglio, AIDAPrima è stata la prima nave da crociera di grandi dimensioni a essere rifornita con una miscela di biocarburante marino, che si ottiene da materie prime sostenibili al 100% come l’olio da cucina di scarto e gasolio marino (MGO) durante la sua sosta a Rotterdam. La nave è in viaggio verso la Norvegia.
L’attuale progetto rappresenta un’importante pietra miliare della strategia di decarbonizzazione del Gruppo Costa, che prevede la sperimentazione di tecnologie per migliorare l’efficienza della flotta esistente. Con il successo dell’avvio dell’utilizzo del biocarburante, si dimostrerà che la graduale decarbonizzazione è possibile anche sulle navi già in servizio. La sperimentazione è frutto della collaborazione con GoodFuels.
Nel corso degli anni, il Gruppo Costa ha guidato l’innovazione sostenibile per l’intero settore introducendo, prima nel settore, nuove tecnologie avanzate a bordo delle sue navi. La Compagnia è stata la prima a introdurre la propulsione a LNG – la più avanzata tecnologia di carburante disponibile per ridurre le emissioni -, con 4 navi già in servizio nella flotta del Gruppo Costa. Inoltre, la maggior parte delle navi della flotta è dotata di capacità di alimentazione da terra in modo da poter operare a “emissioni zero” nei porti dove questa tecnologia è disponibile.
