Su iniziativa dell’eurodeputato Pietro Bartolo, una delegazione composta da pescatori, armatori, commercianti, e amministratori locali di Mazara del Vallo, guidata dal sindaco della città siciliana Salvatore Quinci è stata in visita al Parlamento europeo per rilanciare i problemi che attanagliano il settore: dal caro gasolio ai rapporti con i paesi nordafricani nei bacini condivisi nel Mediterraneo. “L’incontro di oggi – dice l’eurodeputato Pietro Bartolo – fa seguito proprio a quella missione ed ha avuto lo scopo di focalizzare meglio alcuni aspetti anche con gli uffici della commissione e di portare nel Palazzo dell’Europa il docufilm sul sequestro della Medinea, il peschereccio di Mazara del Vallo sequestrato insieme all’equipaggio per 108 giorni nel 2021. Dalla marineria di Mazara sono arrivate sollecitazioni interessanti per interventi a medio e lungo termine che aiutino i pescatori ad innovare le proprie imbarcazioni e a passare a sistemi di di alimentazione in linea con la transizione ecologica“.
“Abbiamo voluto portare all’attenzione dell’Europa le istanze, le preoccupazioni ed i bisogni della marineria, mazarese e siciliana, che ormai da troppo tempo affronta condizioni di disagio – dice il sindaco Salvatore Quinci – Questa iniziativa nasce grazie alle relazioni tra la nostra città e la commissione Pesca del Parlamento europeo grazie alle relazioni intessute in primis con l’eurodeputato Bartolo che si sono già concretizzate con la visita nella nostra città del presidente e dei rappresentanti della commissione Pesca del Parlamento europeo e che hanno già portato ad un progetto finanziato dal Mipaf per studiare il passaggio alle quote del gambero rosso nel Canale di Sicilia“.
La delegazione arrivata a Bruxelles partecipato ieri ad un tavolo tecnico alla presenza di Claudio Quaranta, capo unità della commissione Pesca al parlamento europeo e di Filippo Segato, funzionario della commissione Pesca. A seguire, in sala Spak, si è svolta la proiezione del docufilm “Centootto” sulla vicenda del peschereccio Medinea, sequestrato insieme all’equipaggio per 108 giorni dalle autorità libiche.
