Tartarughe marine, – 60% di spiaggiamenti in Sicilia nel 2022
Nell’anno 2022 si registra un numero limitato di segnalazioni di spiaggiamenti con un decremento del 60% rispetto allo stesso periodo dell’anno precedente. Nel 2021, invece, sono stati circa 50 gli esemplari segnalati alla Capitaneria di Porto della Regione Sicilia e recuperati presso il CReTaM dell’Izs Sicilia, con un netto incremento nel periodo primaverile-estivo.
Il Centro di referenza nazionale sul benessere, monitoraggio e diagnostica delle tartarughe marine dell’Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sicilia, dal 2006, svolge attività di sorveglianza delle tartarughe marine, a tutela del loro stato di conservazione nonché della loro cattura o uccisione accidentale. Le cause più comuni di spiaggiamento sono l’ingestione di ami e lenze, e l’impatto con natanti.
Da gennaio a luglio 2022, presso il CReTaM, sono state curate 10 tartarughe, di cui 8 sono già state reimmesse in natura. Le specie di tartaruga marina presenti nel Mar Mediterraneo (Caretta caretta, Chelonia mydas, Dermochelys coriacea) sono classificate come (endangered) secondo l’Unione Mondiale per la Conservazione della Natura.
Per approfondire le cause che hanno portato alla riduzione del numero di segnalazione degli spiaggiamenti, l’Izs Sicilia chiederà un incontro con l’Assessore regionale dell’Agricoltura, dello Sviluppo rurale e della Pesca per discutere quanto sta accadendo lungo le coste siciliane.
